On Tuesday, July 9, 2019 Harris County and the Texas Department of Transportation Houston District opened bids for the Red Bluff Road Improvements from Kirby Boulevard to State Highway 146. The purpose of the project is to improve safety and enhance mobility to accommodate existing and expected future growth.
The existing roadway consists of approximately 1.5 miles of three 11-foot travel lanes with a continuous 11-foot turn lane between SH 146 and the Taylor Lake Bridge, and transitioning to one-way operation between the bridge and Kirby Boulevard. The existing bridge currently includes a two-lane, undivided roadway without pedestrian walkway facilities.
The improvement project will construct two eastbound traffic lanes and convert the existing roadway to a one-way westbound operation. The roadway on the existing bridge over Taylor Lake will be improved to include the addition of a new bridge parallel to the existing bridge. This existing bridge, located north of the proposed new bridge, would be re-striped to two lanes of westbound traffic. The new bridge will include two lanes of eastbound traffic and a 10-foot wide pedestrian walkway.
The project will let later this summer with construction expected to start in the last quarter of 2019. The City of Seabrook will release more information about the construction phasing and schedule when it becomes available.
