On Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at the Seabrook City Council meeting, Chief of Police Sean Wright issued Commendations for Sergeant Don Hough and Officer Matthew Sterling for their professional actions and exceptional work in apprehending and arresting two armed suspects.
On Sunday, June 26, 2022, at approximately 3:50 p.m. Seabrook police officers responded to an aggravated robbery. The victim had planned to purchase a vehicle from the suspects, however, when the victim arrived for the exchange, he was robbed at gunpoint by three men.
The three suspects fled with the cash that the victim intended to use to purchase the vehicle. The victim immediately called 911 and Seabrook Police Officer Sterling was able to identify the vehicle described by the victim driving down Red Bluff in Seabrook. Officer Sterling attempted to pull over the vehicle, however, the suspects failed to stop and a pursuit of the vehicle ensued. Sergeant Hough assisted Officer Sterling with the pursuit.
The suspects evaded law enforcement at a high speed through the cities of Seabrook, Pasadena and La Porte and finally crashed their vehicle along the 8900 block of Spencer in La Porte. The suspects exited the vehicle and ran from the officers on the scene. Two of the suspects were apprehended and two guns were recovered. One of the guns recovered had been reported stolen. The victim's stolen cash was also recovered and returned to the victim.
Jorden Scott, an 18-year-old from Spring, Texas was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery and evading a felony. Lucci Lerow Smith an 18-year-old from Houston, Texas was also arrested and charged with aggravated robbery.
Upon further investigation, police believe the suspects had been actively scamming people on social media. Seabrook Police would like to remind residents to be careful when purchasing items from social media or online applications. Always find a safe, common and public place to make an exchange. The Seabrook Police Department offers a safety exchange zone in front of the Seabrook Community House located at 1210 Anders Avenue in Seabrook. This safe zone is equipped with cameras and is located next door to the police station.
